Language Arts

      Reading Readiness Skills

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Identify all upper and lower case alphabet letters.

2.      Use letter sound to identify printed words.

3.      Describe parts of a book ( cover, title, author, illustrator ).

4.      Respond to who, what, when, where, and why questions.

5.      Identify characters in a story.

6.      Describe the parts of a simple story ( beginning, middle, end ).

7.      Read books or listen to stories read aloud.

8.      Predict what could happen next in a story.

      Writing Skills

            It is expected that students will:

1.      Print letters of the alphabet.

2.      Write first and last name.

3.      Communicate ideas by drawing, painting, and/or writing.

4.      Retell and dictate stories.

5.      Copy selected words from the chalkboard, books, cards, and other charts.

      Listening Skills

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Listen to and follows directions.

2.      Listen attentively when others speak.

3.      Listen to stories, poetry, and songs.

4.      Compare letter sounds and rhyming words.

5.      Recall presented materials.

Speaking Skills

It is expected that students will:

1.      Describe objects and pictures.

2.      Communicate in complete sentences.

3.      Ask questions to obtain information.

4.      Participate in plays, role playing, music, story telling, and discussion groups.

      Library Skills

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Select books based on personal interest.

2.      Define the terms author and illustrator.

Concepts of Print

It is expected that students will:

1.      Recognize left to right progression of text.

2.      Recognize sentences end with punctuation.

3.      Know that printed text represents spoken word.

      Mathematics

      Number and Operation Concept

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Count up to 20 objects to determine quantity.

2.       Count by ones to 20.

3.       Compare sets of objects and describe more/less/equal.

4.       Match the correct number of objects with the appropriate numeral (0-10)

5.       Recognize, read and write numerals 0-10

6.       Identify ordinal positions (first through fifth).

7.       Investigate combining and separating sets of objects.

8.       Investigate fractional concepts using objects.

      Computation and Estimation

It is expected that students will:

1.       Combine sets of objects (addition) and describe results.

2.       Remove objects from a set (subtraction) and describe results.

3.       Compare two sets to determine the difference (subtraction).

4.       Add and subtract whole numbers to 10, using objects.

5.       Estimate quantities using objects, verify by counting, and revise original estimate based on new information.

6.       Use computation and estimation to solve real-world problems.

      Problem Solving and Reasoning

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Solve problems using objects,

      Patterns, Functions, and Algebra

      It is expected that students will:

            1.   Sort objects with similar characteristics.

2.       Create and describe patterns using objects, words, and numbers.

3.       Copy, recognize, and extend repeating patterns.

      Measurement

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Compare and order objects by size.

2.       Order objects by size and weight.

3.       Identify and sort coins (pennies, nickels, and dimes).

4.       Identify year, day, and month using a calendar.

      Statistics and Probability

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Describe and compare information (data) on graphs made with objects, pictures, numbers.

2.       Identify likely and unlikely events in everyday situations.

Word of God

Bible History

It is expected that the students will:

1.       Recall presented stories, main characters, and key events.

2.       Discuss the main truths of the Bible Lesson.

3.       Discuss the implications of Bible Stories on their own lives.

      Memory Work

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Memorize assigned Bible passages.

2.       Memorize assigned Hymns.

            (through classroom repetition and work at home)

      Spiritual Attitudes

Outward actions are the fruits of faith.  However, as humans we cannot judge the faith of another.  We can however expect certain behaviors out of Christian young people.  Good works do not necessarily come from faith, but faith necessarily produces good works.

      It is expected that students will;

1.       Apologize when they have wronged another.

2.       Offer forgiveness when another has wronged them.

      Spiritual Behavior

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Bow their heads and fold their hands during prayer.

2.       Sing to the best of their ability when praising God.

3.       Listen attentively during devotions and Bible lessons.

      Science

      Earth and Space Science

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Recognize that God created the sky, the earth, and everything in the earth.

2.       Observe and describe objects in the sky (sun, moon, stars, clouds, birds).

      Life science

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Recognize that God gave life to all living things.

2.       Observe and describe attributes of familiar animals and plants.

3.       Observe similarities and differences between animals and their offspring.

      Physical Science

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Observe, describe, and compare observable properties of matter.

2.       Describe objects according to observable materials and properties.

3.       Observe movement of objects and describe motions.

      Science and Technology

      It is expected that students will:

1.       Conduct investigations.

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Use vocabulary related to direction and location (e.g. up/down, left/right, near/far, over/under, above/below) to describe a person, place or thing.

2.      Recognize land and water representations on a globe.

      History

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Develop an awareness of the United States and its people.

2.      Identify important religious, state, and federal holidays.

      Economics

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Recognize the difference between a want and a need.

2.      Recognize that God will full fill our needs.

3.      Recognize that money is used to buy goods and services.

      Global Awareness

      It is expected that students will:

1.      Develop awareness of people and places in other locations.

2.      Develop awareness of countries bordering the United States.

      It is expected that the student will:

1.      Regularly participate in group exercise activities.

      Group Activities/Organized Games

      It is expected that the students will:

1.      Participate in group games and activities.

2.      Observe the rules of simple games.

3.      Practice good sportsmanship.

      Attitudes

      It is expected that the students will:

1.      Recognize exercise and physical movement as an important

                  part of a healthy life

2.      Recognize that their bodies are a magnificent gift from God.

             All Physical Education classes will take place in the classroom or outside ( either on the blacktop or in the fenced -in playground).  The children will use playground balls, parachutes, big wheels, the jungle gym, CD player, and the sandbox during PE. 

      Music

      Singing Skills

      It is expected that the students will:

            1.   Participate regularly in singing activities.

      Listening Skills

      It is expected that the students will:

1.   Listen to different types of music and choose which they like best.

2.   Listen to different instruments and describe the different sounds.

      Rhythm Skills

      It is expected that the students will:

 1.  Copy simple clapping rhythms.

 2.  Copy simple rhythms using instruments.

 3.  Do dances and finger plays to music.

      Attitudes

      It is expected that the students will:

1.     Recognize music as a wonderful way to praise God.

2.     Recognize music as a wonderful way to have fun and relax.

      Teacher/student ratio

There are 2 teachers and a teaching assistant in the kindergarten classroom. We maintain a ratio 9 children to 1 adult. times.
