Mrs. Nielsen is Retiring at the End of the School Year!

Dear Members of Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Church Council and School Board,

Please accept this letter as my official request to be released from my call as the Director and Kindergarten Teacher for our Green Valley Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten.  I have given this a lot of thought, and even more prayer, but have come to the final decision of retiring from this special public ministry you have called me into.  The effective date is August 15, 2017, which is at the end of the present school year.

It is hard to put into words what it has meant to me to be the director and teacher here at Green Valley Lutheran Preschool & Kindergarten. Being called to be a part of our church’s outreach to so many little children over these past 19 years has been more than an honor and a blessing; it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have seen the Lord’s blessings first hand as our school has been filled year after year with children and their families. I have been blessed to have shared this calling with many wonderful teachers, assistants, secretaries and of course dedicated pastors. We have all witnessed our little ones grow in an understanding and faith in our Lord as we have shared with them Jesus’ message of love and forgiveness. It is not hard to look back and be proud of the years I have spent here. Many of the children have grown up in the church and continue that love and faithfulness to our savior. My heart has been warmed by the many children, who do not attend our church but have made their way back on occasion to our school and church to let us know that their time here was instrumental in their lives. I have given a lot of my life to this school and church, but nothing compared to what it has given me.

I thank Pastor Pieper and the church for their vision in starting Green Valley Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten and for being not only an incredible supporter of the school, but in helping us all grow in our faith.  I am happy and proud to have been a part of it for the past 19 years of my life.

My husband and I ask for your prayers as we now move into this next phase of our lives. We will continue to be active members of the church as we look for new ways to serve. I am sure that the Lord who has so richly blessed me and you for so many years will continue to pour His blessings on my successor and all who are touched by our joint ministry.

Once again, thank you for this opportunity to serve the Lord through service to you.

In Christ,

Shawn Nielsen

Mrs. Nielsen welcomes her daughter as the new director.

My name is Jennifer Revis and I’d like to introduce myself as the new director and teacher of Green Valley Lutheran Preschool & Kindergarten (GVLPK). Aside from being an educator, I am also a wife and mother. My husband Reggie and I just had a baby boy back in July. I also have two lovely teenage daughters, who are 16 and 13 years old, and a very helpful 12 year old son at home. It’s a busy but blessed life!

I am overwhelmed with joy to be able to return to GVLPK. This school is dear to my heart for many reasons. It is where I got my start as an early childhood educator and is also the school that my older three children received their early Christian education. The women here are like family, most of whom I have known since I was 20 years old, and I have been a member of the church for even longer!

When I started at GVLPK in 1998, I was the teaching assistant in the kindergarten classroom. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education in 2002 from UNLV and accepted my call to stay here and teach half day kindergarten. In 2008 I received my Master’s degree in literacy education from Lesley University and continued on as a full day kindergarten teacher for the school.

In the fall of 2012 I decided to challenge myself as an educator by taking a leave from private education and began teaching for the public school system in both charter and district classrooms. I gained a wealth of experiences and training, including an endorsement for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) through Sierra Nevada College.

I am thankful that I had those chances to grow as an educator, but I am even more thankful to know that I now get to return to my ‘home’ at Green Valley Lutheran Preschool & Kindergarten. I look forward to serving the children and families of this wonderful school for many years to come!

In Christ,

Jennifer Revis
